Some of Grandmother’s clothes are missing! She isn’t too concerned because, with a lot of people in the house, things do go astray, but she’s particularly worried about one white shirt.
“Has anyone seen Nana’s shirt?”
“Jackie’s wearing it.”
“Why does Jackie have Nana’s shirt?”
“She borrowed it to wear with her new black jeans.”
“But you didn’t ask Nana!”
“I was going to wear it because Nana said I could use anything of hers, but I wore Cheryl’s shirt instead so Jackie wore Nana’s.”
“But Jackie doesn’t even live here!”
“I know, Mom, and I don’t live with Cheryl but her mother doesn’t make a fuss like you do. Anyway, Cheryl’s wearing my shoes.”
“I thought her feet were much smaller than yours.”
“They are, but she said she’ll be fine. They look good with my green dress and she’s thinking of wearing that.”
“Why can’t you wear your own clothes?”
“I don’t like them.”
“If you remember, you chose them. I didn’t say a word the last time we went out shopping together. I let you buy exactly what you wanted.”
“You never really understand anything do you, Mom? Clothes are O.K. when they’re new but then they get boring.”
“You’re right, I don’t understand. You have a closet full of clothes that your friends wear, you wear all their clothes and now poor Nana’s clothes are also being spread around the neighbourhood. I’ll have to be careful of my clothes or you’ll be wearing those next!”
“Trust me, Mom. THAT will never happen!”
