"I have a history test on Monday."
"Where are your books? Shouldn't you be studying?"
"Mom, it's the weekend. The test's on Monday, I'll study tomorrow ! "
I don't know if this is familiar to other parents but it was a conversation I had just last week.
Studying too early for a test can inhibit your social life and, anyway, isn't that what the night before a test is for? At least that's how the rest of our little talk went.
That started me thinking. What if report cards were handed out for socializing? Just imagine the parent / teacher interview if that were the case. It would probably go something like this:
"What can I say, your daughter's on the Honour Roll again. I wish more of my students were like her. She's a delight."
" Is it true she's going to receive some kind of award?"
"Yes she is. It's the Principal's special award for talking in class. Three other students were under consideration for this but there was really no competition.”
“She was by far the best. Her strength is that she talks constantly and that's a problem for most students. They can talk some of the time but not all the time and they lose marks for this.”
“Your daughter, however, can talk all the time, even when I'm talking, and that earns bonus points. “
“I would like to add that you should be particularly proud of the fact that she also takes the time to help other kids and some of them are beginning to talk more and more.”
“Pretty soon no-one will be able to hear a thing I say! She's an inspiration! I'm really going to miss her when she graduates. It's been a pleasure to have her in my class."
Now that's what I call a parent / teacher interview!
